Photo of the Day: Fort Lee Mural

This afternoon while in Fort Lee, a few miles from where I live in Bergen County, NJ, I had a little extra time, so I took a five-minute walk north of the George Washington Bridge. 

I’ve become accustomed to how much the borough has changed over the years. But the mural you see here—and which I promptly photographed—was a sight I hadn’t come across before.

The mural, located at 1637 Palisade Avenue, was unveiled this past August. It was created by Dan Kitchener, a London-based artist whose street art can also be seen in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Russia, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere in Europe.

Photo of the Day: Murray Hill Mural

A few weeks ago, I was on East 34^th Street, visiting a friend who happened to be in New York City for a day or two, when my eye was drawn across the street to this mural. I don’t know what this striking artwork in the Murray Hill neighborhood depicts, but it dominated the courtyard next to the Armenian Evangelical Church of New York, so presumably it has something to do with that site.

Photo of the Day: Columbus Circle Subway Station, NYC

I’ve been passing through the Columbus Circle subway station for 40 years, back to when I attended Schafer Music Festival concerts in Central Park. I had gotten, I thought, immune to the general banality and dinginess of its interior. Then, a week ago, I was surprised—and glad to see—the dash of color on the mural I photographed on my way down to catch the subway.
