While on my way to a bookstore on 12th
Street, I came across the Union Square Greenmarket. What began
relatively quietly in 1976 has now grown into an ongoing event that, at the
height of the season, may see 140 regional farmers, fishers, and bakers sell
their products.
The market is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and
Saturdays year-round, but I suspect that it’s especially busy Saturdays, when
visitors will encounter collections for food scraps and clothing, cooking
demonstrations led by the Natural Gourmet Institute, a Beer and Spirits of New
York pop-up, and book signings.
