I took the photo accompanying this post this past
weekend by the shores of the Hackensack River, not far from where I live in Bergen County, N.J. Had anyone not
known the area any better, they probably would not have guessed that just
beyond this natural habitat stretches Route 4, one of the most traffic-choked
arteries in the state.
