Photo of the Day: Early-Evening, Late-Year Radiance

In the past few weeks, I’ve been struck by the sight of a tree on Van Brunt Street, just off the major commercial street in my hometown of Englewood, NJ—and, specifically, how the tree not only has kept its leaves so late in the year, but how the leaves appear in the light. They lend something bright and special to nights even as we slip in earnest into winter, convincing me that light exists even in deep darkness.

Not a bad thought to end the year. May each of you reading this find your own radiance in 2019!

Early Wednesday night, after a 2 pm matinee performance at Lincoln Center, I headed down to Rockefeller Center. That’s when I came across this scene. Now, I work in the area, so under normal circumstances one would expect me to come across this. But I never get out on this side of the building, so I didn’t usually come across this. 

But now, with the nights coming on earlier—and the lights reminding me of the season to come—this setting practically implored me to take out my camera. I didn’t mind obliging in the slightest.
