with it. That song [‘Scenes From an Italian Restaurant’] was made of fragments
of other songs that I’d started and never finished but kept around. Then I
stitched them together like the Beatles stitched together the suite on Abbey
Road. The songs kind of worked together, but I didn’t know how I’d tie it
all up. Then I thought of the idea of scenes from an Italian restaurant. There
