Quote of the Day (Walter Lippmann, on Opposition in a Democracy)
"In a democracy, the opposition is not only
tolerated as constitutional, but must be maintained because it is
indispensable." —Columnist Walter Lippmann (1889-1974), “The Indispensable
Opposition,” Atlantic Monthly, August
1939, from The Essential Lippmann: A Political Philosophy for Liberal Democracy,
edited by Clinton Rossiter and James Lare (1982)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
