Quote of the Day (George Eliot, on Disappointment)
"We mortals, men and women, devour many a
disappointment between breakfast and dinner-time; keep back the tears and look
a little pale about the lips, and in answer to inquiries say, ’Oh, nothing!’
Pride helps; and pride is not a bad thing when it only urges us to hide our
hurts— not to hurt others." — George Eliot, Middlemarch (1874)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
