Photo of the Day: Late Winter Flashback



On the first day of summer, with the temperatures climbing well into the 80s and the air feeling stickier, I thought I would flash back to the official start of spring—which, you might recall, from this photo I took on my morning bus commute through New Jersey’s Meadowlands, was itself something of a flashback, with a late, unexpected winter surge.

I took this photo late this afternoon on the commute back home from work. The view out the window from my bus habitually fascinates me and I’ve long wanted to try to snap an image of this landscape, but there are usually cars in the lane to the right, obstructing my view. Today, that was not the case, so I whipped out my camera and shot each passing image of water.

Photo of the Day: Meadowlands, at the Turn of the Season



I snapped this picture from the window of my morning bus to work, right after winter had supposedly turned to spring a week ago. Temperatures in the last 24 hours—and going forward for a few more days—are giving me a bad sense of déjà vu. But conditions will change again, just as they always do when one season hasn’t fully left another behind.

In Bergen County, NJ, drivers can get off the highway and, within a few minutes, find a more natural state, beyond the factories and refineries, in these marshes found at Overpeck County Park in Leonia, one town away from where I live.
