On the first day of summer, with the temperatures
climbing well into the 80s and the air feeling stickier, I thought I would
flash back to the official start of spring—which, you might recall, from this
photo I took on my morning bus commute through New Jersey’s Meadowlands, was
itself something of a flashback, with a late, unexpected winter surge.
