Quote of the Day (John Mason Brown, on Washington as a ‘City That Goes Around in Circles’)

“The more I observed Washington, the more frequently I visited it, and the more people I interviewed there, the more I understood how prophetic L'Enfant was when he laid it out as a city that goes around in circles.”— John Mason Brown, Through These Men: Some Aspects of Our Passing History (1956)

As I discovered on vacation here this week, the escalator for the Farragut West Metro station was much like the men who occupy the Capitol: i.e., it doesn’t work.

(I took the image accompanying this post while in vacation in the capital this week.)
