Quote of the Day (Michael P. Lynch, on the Crisis of Reason in the U.S.)
“Without a common background of standards against
which we measure what counts as a reliable source of information, or a reliable
method of inquiry, and what doesn’t, we won’t be able to agree on the facts,
let alone values. Indeed, this is precisely the situation we seem to be headed
toward in the United States.” —Michael P. Lynch, In Praise of Reason: Why Rationality Matters for Democracy (2012)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
