Early last month, on my way to Brooklyn Heights, I
stopped briefly by Cadman Plaza Park,
located on the border between that neighborhood and downtown Brooklyn. The 10.4-acre
park—originally called Brooklyn Bridge Park, then renamed for a Congregational
minister and radio preacher—includes memorials to Mayor William Jay Gaynor and
the borough’s service personnel who fought in WWII.
Part of the reason I took this photo, I think, was
the thought that so many—like those here—came to visit this green space near
the automobile ramp onto the Brooklyn Bridge--a breath of fresh air amid the stress of modern life.
