This afternoon, on my way home from work, I walked
over to Rockefeller Center to see if I could get some interesting shots of its
world-famous rink. As I gazed down from the plaza at the couple of skaters milling about on the ice, a wave of disappointment began to settle over
me. I started to snap one picture after another, wishing that someone would
eventually do something.
I had hoped that someone would make like an Olympic
skater and perform a figure 8, but what I saw—somebody standing still—turned
out to be even better. To the growing delight of hundreds of onlookers such as myself,
the fellow in the picture dropped on one knee and popped the question to his
beloved. The thumbs-up seen here sent the crowd into wild applause.
A nice gift for the young lady here. But, if the
gentleman is good from now on, her “yes” is likely to be the even bigger
present.
