A week or so ago, I posted an image of the Princeton
a cappella group the Katzenjammers, but my attendance at their event was a
happy accident. I really wanted to see, and take pictures of, the venue where
they appeared, Greenwood Gardens in
Short Hills, N.J.
Greenwood, once a Gilded Age grand estate, has been
saved from neglect, reopening as a public park and cultural center in late
April, when I—and goodness knows how many others—got a look at this reclaimed
site. From the back of the brick manor house, where I took this photo, the
Italianate garden rolls and beckons before the eyes, infinitely inviting. There are even more fascinating spots on the grounds, which I hope to present to you in more shots over the next week or so.
