After the torrent of rain yesterday it seems like a
million years ago, but Sunday featured some of this year’s most gorgeous
weather, and one of the sites that appeared to fullest advantage then was the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in
Montclair, N.J. They’re not the biggest gardens in the world, but during bloom
season, from May 5 to June 3 this year, they seem to capture every type and
shade of iris in the world. If you’re within driving distance, it’s worth a
visit, in ways the accompanying image can only begin to suggest.
(Thanks to my
friend Emil for the inspiration.)
