I took so many pictures of the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, N.J., a few weeks ago that I felt compelled to post another one—even though the blooming season passed about two to three weeks ago. A flower may pass; the beauty of an image doesn’t.

The seasonable temperatures and clear skies this past Sunday brought out more than nature lovers to the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, N.J. It also lured artists, such as the one shown here, who knew something good when they saw it.

Here is another of the series of photos I took on Sunday at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, N.J. This particular variety is known as the Ginger Swirl—though, given the blue hue in the back, it looks as if this variety might be seeking a partner. Where’s Fred?

Photo of the Day: Towering Irises

After the torrent of rain yesterday it seems like a million years ago, but Sunday featured some of this year’s most gorgeous weather, and one of the sites that appeared to fullest advantage then was the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, N.J. They’re not the biggest gardens in the world, but during bloom season, from May 5 to June 3 this year, they seem to capture every type and shade of iris in the world. If you’re within driving distance, it’s worth a visit, in ways the accompanying image can only begin to suggest.
