Photo of the Day: Leading Down the Garden Path—Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn NY

Yet another image from what feels like ages ago—June 2014, on a lovely late spring day, on my visit to one of the treasures of New York, now temporarily closed due to COVID-19: the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Something to look forward to again, once we all awake from this nightmare…

Quote of the Day (St. Thomas More, on the Soul and Gardens)

“The many great gardens of the world, of literature and poetry, of painting and music, of religion and architecture, all make the point as clear as possible: The soul cannot thrive in the absence of a garden. If you don’t want paradise, you are not human; and if you are not human, you don’t have a soul."―English statesman St. Thomas More (1478-1535), Utopia (1516)

I took this photo 2 ½ years ago in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Photo of the Day: Encountering the Beautiful, at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

This mother had the right idea when I took this image three years ago: expose her son, amid New York’s vast concrete jungle, to the realm of lush nature. I found the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to be all that, and more. No matter how young this boy might have been, it could never be too late to plant in him the seeds of an idea of the beautiful--even when, as here, it's just the entrance to this jewel of the city.

Photo of the Day: Trees and Walkway, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, NY

I took this picture 2½ years ago, on a lovely day at the start of summer, when I spent several hours in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, one of the great jewels of that borough.

Photo of the Day: Reaching for the Sky, at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

I’m not sure about the name of this particular form of plant life, but it did strike me as visually striking when I visited the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in late June a year ago.

Photo of the Day: Rose Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden

It’s been just about a year since I visited it, but I still never tire of the beauty of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in all its intensity and variety. The image accompanying this post, which I snapped back then, is, to be exact, the Cranford Rose Garden. Particularly when viewed from a height, as I first encountered it, it’s really quite impressive.
