Quote of the Day (Will Durant, on Speaking Ill of Others)
“To speak ill of others is a dishonest way of
praising ourselves; let us be above such transparent egotism. If you can't say
good and encouraging things, say nothing. Nothing is often a good thing to do,
and always a clever thing to say.”—Historian Will Durant (1885-1981), “We Have a Right To Be Happy Today,”
Commencement Speech. Delivered at Webb School of Claremont, CA, June 7, 1958
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
