Quote of the Day (Thomas Carlyle, on Books and the ‘Audible Voice of the Past’)
"In books lies the soul of the whole Past Time;
the articulate audible voice of the Past, when the body and material substance
of it has altogether vanished like a dream." —Scottish historian, essayist
and philosopher Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881),Lectures on Heroes, Hero-Worship and the Heroic in History (1841)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
