Quote of the Day (Ernest Hemingway, on Fishing as a ‘Tragic Adventure’)
“In the swamp the banks were bare, the big cedars
came together overhead, the sun did not come through, except in patches; in the
fast deep water, in the half-light, the fishing would be tragic. In the swamp
fishing was a tragic adventure. Nick did not want it. He didn't want to go up
the stream any further today.” ― Ernest Hemingway, “Big Two-Hearted River,” from In Our Time(1925)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
