Photo of the Day: 46th Street Fair, NYC

Yesterday, on what might, with combined heat and humidity, have been the muggiest day in New York so far this year, I ventured into Manhattan for a matinee performance of the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Significant Other (an interesting show that I’ll review at a later date). I took this photograph of the street fair going on outside the theater on 46th Street.

I felt miserable just walking a couple of blocks from an eatery to the show; I can only guess at how the vendors must have felt being out there all day long. The canopies might have helped with the blazing sun, but there was still all that stale air to contend with.

Photo of the Day: Walking Tall

There were more than food and non-food merchants at the two-day Ninth Avenue International Food Festival (the subject of my post yesterday) this weekend. Also present were street performers, including the fellow I caught in this photo, on stilts.

Photo of the Day: ‘Which Cap Do I Like?’

This afternoon, on my way to an Off-Broadway play, I came across the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival, stretching from 42nd to 57th Streets in Manhattan. Though the focus was, of course, on food, it provided people with an opportunity to sample the wares of all kinds of merchants from Ninth Avenue and Hell’s Kitchen, including this hat dealer.

Photo of the Day: Street Fair, Columbia University

I took the image accompanying this post last Saturday, when a crowd, enjoying temperatures exceeding 70 degrees, lined the east side of Broadway from 110th to 116th Street, just outside the campus of Columbia University, my alma mater, with everything from food to hand-craft vendors plying their trade.

Photo of the Day: Midtown Street Fair

I took the photo accompanying this post two days ago, in midtown Manhattan, just north of Duffy Square. That afternoon, booths with vendors selling all kinds of food and goods capitalized on the street traffic—from Broadway matinees, the lovely weather and the location at the crossroads of the world—to do a thriving business.
