I took this photo in late December, but in fact
it reminded me a bit of what it felt like to be in New York City today: sunny,
but cold and windy enough to make you hurry a bit to where you might
want to go. Still, if you were out walking along the Esplanade of Battery Park City, as these young women
were doing back then, bright skies could allow you to overlook the
occasional gust that made me you quicken your step or even grab your hat.

Photo of the Day: Waning Light on the Battery, Lower Manhattan
I took this photo while walking around Battery Park City in late December.
Come to think of it, this seems like the last time I was able to get out to
take many photos.
Winter’s been a long siege this year. Today, with temperatures rising into the mid-50s and with the sun sticking out longer than when I took this photo (mid-afternoon), I sensed hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers pressing the season to surrender, fast.

Photo of the Day: Esplanade, Battery Park City, NYC
Last Monday afternoon, while visiting Lower
Manhattan, I took this photograph of the Esplanade at Battery Park City—a mile-long stretch of parkland and gardens, all with
the Hudson River to the west as a majestic backdrop. No wonder that so many people were out
in force that day to enjoy the walk and the weather.Friday, January 2, 2015
Photo of the Day: New Jersey, Viewed From Lower Manhattan
I took this photograph of the New Jersey riverfront on
Monday while down at the Esplanade at Battery Park City in Lower Manhattan.
