Quote of the Day (Tyree Daye, on God ‘Soft-Spoken’)

"
There are moments you can hear God
say things soft-spoken, the sun
settling between thin pines."—Tyree Daye, “Tamed,” in The New York Times Magazine, Nov. 4, 2017

I took the picture accompanying this post a year ago, in Allison Park, in my hometown, Englewood, NJ.

Ah Allison Park - some of my first memories as a child in the 1960's were of my pop taking Karin and me to hike around the boulders and oaks and pines to a secluded spot for a backcountry fire. We'd bake "Mickies" in aluminum foil and sip Penguin soda while pop enjoyed his PBR quart of beer. Another time we collected a bunch of thick pine bark from downed trees which Pop later made into a bird house that hung from a branch outside of the second grade classroom at St. Cecilia's Grammar School. Later forays as a teen into Allison Park past closing time on hot and humid summer nights balanced the intrigue of chasing girls, stuffing bottled Michelob in jean pockets, and avoiding cop car's searchlights.
