Quote of the Day (Thomas Merton, on Gratitude and the ‘Love of God in Everything’)
“To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in
everything He has given us—and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw
is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is grace, for it brings with
us immense graces from Him. Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is
never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder, and to praise of the
goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay
but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.”—American
Trappist monk Thomas Merton (1915-1968), Thoughts in Solitude (1956)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
