Quote of the Day (James Baldwin, on How Love Takes Off Our Masks)
“Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot
live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word ‘love’ here not
merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace—not
in the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough and
universal sense of quest and daring and growth.” ―African-American
novelist-essayist James Baldwin (1924-1987), The Fire Next Time (1963)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
