Quote of the Day (Alan Sillitoe, on ‘The Art of Writing’)
“The art of writing is to explain the complications
of the human soul with the simplicity that can be universally understood.”—Alan
Sillitoe (1928-2010), British novelist and short-story writer (The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner),
quoted in Jonathan Brown, “Alan Sillitoe, Chronicler of Working-Class Life, Dies,” The Independent (U.K.), Apr. 25, 2010
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
