Quote of the Day (Mark Twain, on German)
"...a gifted person ought to learn English
(barring spelling and pronunciation) in thirty hours, French in thirty days,
and German in thirty years...If [German] is to remain as it is, it ought to be
gently and reverently set aside among the dead languages, for only the dead
have time to learn it."—Mark Twain, “That Awful German Language,” in A Tramp Abroad (1880)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
