I hate the crowds, but somehow, in a world when the
forces of dark gather climactically (winter) and psychologically (the Newtown
massacre), I have felt it amazing still
to find this symbol of light and hope a few blocks from where I work, in
Rockefeller Center. The crowds every day in the holiday season, I think,
testify to the same feeling I have: that the world would be a darker place
without this tree and the hope it symbolizes.
