Yesterday and today were about as lovely as a late
spring day can get—sunny, with comfortable temperatures and low humidity.
Plenty of people were out when I took this picture, strolling around and soaking up the sun at Wood Dale County Park.
Signs of the continuing impact of COVID-19 remained
around us at this 118-acre park occupying parts of Hillsdale, Park Ridge and Woodcliff Lake.
Many, if not most, people still wore facial covering; everyone stayed
at least six feet apart; every other parking space was roped off to reinforce
that last yardstick of social distance; and the gazebo was closed. (The prior
day, the dog park at Overpeck County Park, a very confined space, was also
closed.)
Retail and restaurants are reopening by degrees. And
who knows if even this much progress will be lost, both from protesters
disregarding social distancing and libertarians deciding to hell with anything infringing
on their prerogatives? In the meantime, the rest of us have had to take small
pleasures like this where we can.
