Quote of the Day (John Steinbeck, on Loneliness and Storytelling)
“We are lonesome animals. We spend all our life
trying to be less lonesome. One of our ancient methods is to tell a story
begging the listener to say and to feel—‘Yes, that’s the way it is, or at least
that’s the way I feel it. You’re not as alone as you thought.’” —American
novelist John Steinbeck (1902-1968), “In Awe of Words,” The Exonian, 75th
anniversary edition, Exeter University (1930)
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
