In four decades passing in and out of New York City,
one of the common scenes I’ve come across is sidewalk art. Like sidewalk music, at
least in my experience, it rarely rises to the level of excellence, or even
frequently to genuine worth. But it is raw and vital, and it is always
interesting to see the images—more often than not, generated by our celebrity
culture—that these artists produce.
I snapped this shot while in midtown Manhattan this
past Saturday. Probably even more people than usual stopped by the works shown
here, since there was a street fair going on only a block away.
