Quote of the Day (Tocqueville, on Social Graces)
“Men who live in democracies are too mobile for a certain number of them to succeed in establishing a code of social graces and to be able to keep it in hand so that it is followed.”— Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America, Volume Two, Part Three, Chapter 14, translated and edited by Harvey C. Mansfield and Delba Winthrop
I'm a librarian (no, NOT a "cybrarian" or "information scientist" or any of the other trendy terms the profession has come up with), as well as a freelance writer/researcher; my political leanings are contrarian, much to the dismay of friends on the left and right, and so I will give anyone looking for my vote exactly what they deserve -- the back of my hand
