This afternoon, walking down to a shopping center
close to my home in Englewood, NJ, I heard music coming from Veterans Memorial
Park—rock music. It was so loud, it
had to be a band playing, I realized—and sure enough, it was—the group of youngsters
you see in this photo, a product of the multiple-location School of Rock.
I looked in vain for Jack Black to emerge (maybe he’s
still sulking because his last decent movie might have been—well, The School of Rock). But that was okay—the
group that I (and a small but appreciative crowd on the lawn) was watching were
displaying the musical talent they had honed as they progressed from the lesson
room to the concert stage.
This particular set of musicians was in the park for Art Rocks: A Celebration of Art and Music. The Tenafly
School of Rock had combined with the ones for Chatham, Waldwick, and New York City,
as well as the One River School and Gallery, on a “poly-artistic show of music
and visual arts.”
