Photo of the Day: Vest Pocket Park, Houston Street, NYC

With more irregularly shaped wedges of land than an outsider can readily imagine, New York City has lent itself to the creation of “vest pocket parks.” I came across one last weekend down by Greenwich Village, near the intersection of Houston Street, Bedford Street, and 6th Avenue.

I didn’t notice a sign carrying the name of this plot of greenery, but it intrigued me even to take this photo. I especially liked what looked like, from where I was standing, a vanishing point--obviously an optical illusion, considering the tiny size of this park.
