Photo of the Day: Double Rainbow, Chautauqua NY

As I have often done in summers in the past 25 years, I spent my vacation last week at the Chautauqua Institution in upstate New York. The weather was blessedly cooler than it was in the New York City area—so much so that I needed a jacket at points. During two days, that coolness was accompanied by steady rain.

Nevertheless, even that had its compensations. When the skies finally had a chance to clear, they opened up with not just a perfect rainbow, but double rainbow. Visitors either stood stock still at the sight or tried to find another vantage point where they could behold it—or, in my case, behold and photograph it.

Whatever the case, we all experienced, as folk-rock singer-songwriter John Sebastian put it nearly a half-century ago at Woodstock, “Rainbows All Over Your Blues.”
