Quote of the Day (Olivia de Havilland, on What She Learned From Parisian Women)

“The importance of tact, restraint, subtlety, and the avoidance of banality.”— Oscar-winning actress Olivia de Havilland, when asked about important lessons she has learned from Parisian women, quoted in her Every Frenchman Has One (updated edition, 2016)

It’s impossible for me to imagine that the classy lady who played Melanie Wilkes of Gone With the Wind—and Errol Flynn’s leading lady at Warner Brothers nine times!—would ever need to learn anything from any woman. But if she is right, Vive la France!
