Photo of the Day: Snow-in-Summer Plant, Berkshire Botanical Garden, MA

Though it was late August when I visited the Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge, Mass., I suspect that it will be a long time before I finish tapping into all the photos I took that afternoon.

I have already written at least five posts about this garden (including on its single-seed juniper and the pineapple lily). But, as you’ll see here, the cerastium tomentosum—better known as “snow-in-summer”—has its own unique allure, with its silvery-grey leaves.

This groundcover perennial is often grown in poor soil—an accurate description of much of the rocky soil in this portion of Western Massachusetts.
