Photo of the Day: Awaiting Riders, Central Park

I am aware, like virtually every New York area consumer of news, of the controversy in the last couple of years over Mayor Bill de Blasio’s stymied desire to ban horse carriages from Central Park and surrounding streets. Perhaps I would feel differently if I knew all the particulars of animal-rights activists’ views.

But still, I was struck the other day by the color involved in this New York tradition, as well as the grace and majesty of the horses themselves. That is why I took this picture.
