Photo of the Day: DePasquale Plaza, Providence, RI

One of the highlights of my end-of-October visit to Providence was a bus tour stop at DePasquale Plaza, in the Federal Hill neighborhood of the city. Though other types of ethnic eateries are beginning to populate the area, it remains overwhelmingly dominated by the Italian influence—not just in the number of high-quality restaurants, but also in this center of the community, designed with all the charm of a piazza.

The two gentlemen in the cowboy hats were, you may have surmised, from Texas, in town for a convention. (I know this because they were on my bus.) Between that headgear and the Old World architecture that surrounds them, they really seemed as if they were walking around in another country.
