Photo of the Day: First Unitarian Church, Providence RI

The First Unitarian Church of Providence, the third structure on this site, was constructed in 1815 and 1816. With its high steeple and design influenced by famous architect Charles Bulfinch (note the pedimented portico set in front of a tower and tall spire), it’s a fine example of a New England church.  Its ashlar-laid white stone is so striking that I was able to use the church as a constant point of reference when I visited Providence on vacation a month ago.
