The perspective of this image is a canine one, the
same kind, in a way, used in Jack London’s famous novel The Call of the Wild. There is an owner, but she’s out of sight
and immaterial to the life of this dog.
Well, almost
immaterial. I took this photograph in mid-April at State Line Lookout, near the New Jersey/New York border, in
mid-April, on the first truly gorgeous day of the spring. The owner, like many
others that day, wanted her dog to have the benefit of exercise on a beautiful
day.
It would have been a different story these last
couple of hot and humid days, when prolonged walking outdoors would come close
to constituting animal abuse.
