Photo of the Day: Meadow Masses, Prospect Park, Brooklyn

I took this photograph of the Long Meadow while in Prospect Park a few weekends ago. Attempting to improve on their prior masterpiece, Central Park, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux conceived for their Brooklyn public space “a broad stretch of slightly undulating meadow without defined edges, itself lost in a maze of shadows of scattered trees."

The Sunday afternoon I made it over there, the mass of people in the park, I think it fair to say, would have agreed that the 19th-century landscape architects had created a lovely space for the ages.
