This photo shows a marvelous piece of “ecoart,” one
of five former drainage pipes in the woods at the Teaneck Creek Park, operated
by the Teaneck Creek Conservancy.
These pipes, believed to be remnants from the construction of the nearby New
Jersey Turnpike, show five different periods in the history of the land from
prehistory to the present. Five years ago, muralist
Eduardo Alexander Rabel led school children and adult volunteers in
creating (or, as I like to think of it, creatively reclaiming) these artifacts.
I like how the artist(s) used every part of the barrel to tell this story in
pictures: the inside of the pipe, representing human aspects of the era; the
outside, environmental aspects (or degredation) associated with it. (Even the wolf seems to be crying out against the damage.)
I just discovered this blog post. As the lead artist for this project, I want to say thank you for your kind words. Also, just FYI, it was supposed to be a coyote. :-)
