“It's not the years, it's the mileage”—Indiana Jones (played by Harrison Ford), responding to love interest Marion Ravenswood (Karen Allen) saying that he’s “not the man I knew ten years ago,” in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), story by George Lucas, screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan
(I was prepared to feel the same way before seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, and there certainly is an element of, as Indy puts it in this one, “Same old, same old” in this much-anticipated sequel. Yet, though it doesn’t have the freshness and sly humor of more than a quarter-century ago, it certainly has a fast-moving story, daring stunts, and, most of all, the return of the wondrous Ms. Allen—showing, from the moment she first flashes her smile on the screen, how delighted she is to be back where she belongs.)
